Port Hadlock PUD Combines Technologies To Build AMR System
Port Hadlock and surrounding Jefferson County is supplied by Public Utility District (PUD) Number One with its fresh water supply in Washington state.  PUD Number One has combined the flexibility and accuracy of Badger water meters with an Itron's ERT®, Encoder Receiver Transmitter, technology to create a lasting AMR system that they can rely on.

Pit box lids, customer pets and over one hundred inches of rainfall a year were just some of the problems being caused for PUD Number One to get accurate and efficient meter reads.  Jefferson County, which is over two thousand square miles, is largely unpopulated yet still provides PUD Number One a large spread out area to cover.  This just seems to add to the other inefficiencies that the PUD had to deal with to get their meter readings.  With all of these problems being faced on a daily basis PUD Manager Jim Parker decided to look into AMR systems to help resolve some of the issues.  "The thing is," Parker said, "We have a lot of other things to do around here in addition to reading meters so that was one of the major reasons we started looking at AMR systems".

Parker sent out requests and received many proposals for AMR systems before deciding on the Badger-Itron solution.  The extended battery life of the ERT® and the accuracy of the Badger meter seemed to be the perfect fit for the PUD's needs.  The system, which has been in place at the utility for over 3 years now, has helped the utility standardize their billing and reduce meter reading times over the years.
