| Badger's Orion AMR system helps City of Eagle Point |
|
The City of Eagle Point grew just over 38% between 2000 and 2003, causing it to be the fastest growing city in Oregon. While adding about 30 meters a month to their system it was taking meter readers over a week to collect usage data from water meters for the utilities billing department. Badger Meter's Orion® system has helped the city cut down the meter reading time so they can focus on other city demands.
Paving streets, storm and water, city parks and facility maintenance are just some of the tasks assigned to the City of Eagle Point staff. Among those tasks assigned to the staff is reading the water meter usage for all of the residents of the city which was taking upwards of 1,390 man hours a year. "In 2004 when we upgraded our system all four of our guys would spend an entire week just reading meters..." said Gary Shipley, City of Eagle Point's Public Works Manager. "We were adding 30 meters a month, so the situation wasn't going to get any better" stated Shipley. This caused Shipley to start pursuing other options when it came to the meter reading of the city's water meters. The Badger Meter Orion® AMR system seemed to be a perfect fit for the city. After deploying the Orion® AMR system into the city's infrastructure, the city was able to read all 2,500 meters in less then five hours with 100% accuracy.
The Orion® system has also helped the city's customer relationships improve by standardizing their billing cycles and providing more accurate meter reads. The city is now able to start printing accurate customer bills within hours of reading the meter allowing customers to have more confidence in the system.
